The Relationship Between Social Media And Self Worth
According to Álvaro Soltero, Managing Editor of The Social U., "The University of Salford in the UK did a study last year on social media’s effects on self-esteem and anxiety, and reported that 50% of their 298 participants said that their 'use of social networks like Facebook and Twitter makes their lives worse'"(1). Why would this be? Perhaps one reason is the importance some people place on comparisons between themselves and "higher performing" friends? The 'likes' you get or don't get might be likened to accolades you get or don't get.
